Did you know that the jewelry you choose is a direct representation of your personality? There are two main jewelry metal categories: silver and gold. Even other varieties of metal fall into these two categories. For example, platinum is a popular jewelry choice, but to the untrained eye platinum looks a lot like silver. The same can be said for white gold as well.
As little as 10 years ago, gold was the most prominently displayed, and widely sold, jewelry metal. However, as time has passed silver has overtaken gold as our jewelry metal of choice. Aside from being trendy, silver jewelry is sleek and sophisticated, and typically looks great on any skin tone. Let's review some tips for wearing silver jewelry.
It is common practice, and believed to be the first rule of jewelry, that any piece you choose should not overwhelm you. For example, if you have a tiny wrist, don't choose a silver bracelet that will sink a ship! Choose pieces that are sophisticated and tasteful and will compliment not only your skin tone, but also your bone structure.
Another rule of thumb in silver jewelry is to wear multiple pieces, but not too many, at the same time. Every day you should be wearing five pieces of jewelry (at minimum). These will include earrings and at least one necklace (sometimes it's attractive and acceptable to wear two necklaces, provided they compliment one another). You should also be wearing at least one bracelet (if you wear a watch, consider a watch/bracelet combo, or a watch that appears to be a bracelet). And finally, you should be wearing at least one ring on each hand. Your ensemble might look something like this: silver hoop earrings, a silver herringbone necklace with a large silver pendant, your usual watch with a silver accent bracelet, your wedding set on your left hand, and a silver expression ring on your right hand (expression rings are those designed to represent your personality).
While layering jewelry is a popular and sophisticated look, it's very important to remember not to wear too much jewelry. You don't want to run the risk of being compared to Mr. T. when you walk into the office. It's also important to choose pieces that reflect your personality, that don't overpower you or the clothing you've chosen, and seeks only to compliment your overall look.
The jewelry you wear will say a lot about you. Silver jewelry, while typically less expensive than other metals, always looks sophisticated and upscale. If you choose silver jewelry, you'll find it easy to get more bang for your buck.
